/ Kerry responds to Chancellor's comments on GWR

This week, the Chancellor, when playing down delays of at least six years to the electrification of the Great Western Railway, might have been stood on the deck of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s SS Great Britain, but he certainly isn’t standing on his shoulders when it comes to investment in strategic infrastructure.
The taxpayer has already lost £330 million – more than the annual day-to-day budget of Bristol City Council – because of delays caused by mismanagement; now, we have the Chancellor telling us not to be ‘hung up’ over a fully electrified train line to Bristol being delayed by at least six years.
The Government seems to be preparing to ditch the project altogether, despite having already inflicted gridlock on Bristol with its preparatory works. Businesses and commuters cannot afford this programme not to go ahead.
