The publication this week of the IPCC report into the murder of Bijan Ebrahimi, who lived at Capgrave Crescent in Brislington, has documented the extent of the systematic failings that led to his tragic death. It is a report that Mr Ebrahimi’s sisters have been waiting for for some time, but that does not make the findings any easier to read. Avon and Somerset police have apologised unreservedly, and recognised how they let Mr Ebrahimi, and his family down.

We need now to ensure that the necessary lessons are learned, and I will be discussing this further with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Sue Mountstevens. It is right that Bristol City Council is also being investigated, and we need to ensure that this review shines more light on what contributed to such a horrendous case and how Mr Ebrahimi could have been failed on so many occasions by different agencies.

My thoughts are with Mr Ebrahimi’s sisters, who have fought for the last four years for answers and recognition of how their brother suffered.
